nick_D01 hey guys apologies if a 'how to' post on this already exists, i did do a search and could'nt find anything. have any of you guys had a go at 'relicing' one of your axes? i suppose the trick is to age and wear & tear it, but make sure it does not suffer any damage which makes it unusable/unplayable (warped neck, splits in the body, cannot stay in tune). please no "i hate relic guitars"/"i love relic guitars but they not worth the $$" there's plenty of those threads around already, lol.
MikeM One of the most important bits about getting a nice looking relic is having the right kind of lacquer on. Nitro without many plasticisers and a low solid content is what's usually aimed for. Trying to make poly look like a relic, doesn't really work.... Also, how heavy? I like my guitars how I like my shoes, just worn in enough for them to not look too shiny. When it comes to making hardware looked relic'd again, it's mainly got to do with material. Chrome doesn't wear how gold and nickel do...
