giggsy
My wife, as well as basically the rest of the family, have been hounding me to join the band at the church we go to for ages. So when there was a call for a bass player I decided to volunteer my services (even though I am not much of a bass player :-[). So they needed someone this Sunday, so on Saturday morning I got the songs - 8, none of which I have ever played before - and had to learn them. I didnt sleep well at all on Saturday night... I remember waking up thinking how many damn dreams can you have about the bass.
But the rehearsal went well on Sunday am and before I knew it I was up there and we were ready to go. I dont think I messed up too bad (I was really only playing the root notes of the chords with a few embellishments here and there) and nobody seemed to get up and leave while I was playing! I think there wereabout 150 people there.
Was such a good feeling afterwards and really enjoyed it once the nerves had worn away - was glowing all day yesterday and cant wait for the next time they need me. I will play at least once a month, maybe more if the other bassists cant make it on their week. Also had a couple people commenting on my Beatle bass which was cool ?

Good Stuff! I would also play the root notes but I am sure you will improve with each week ?
I also played in a Praise and Worship Band for a couple of years, used a Elctro Nylon and I totally busked the thing because the leader never provided chord sheets nor did he play the song in the same key twice, did my best Stu Sutcliffe, hiding in the corner and not facing the audience.
And Man United won on Sunday, must have been a good day ?

Brilliant! The nice thing about playing bass is it will make you a better guitarist too.
...and bass is all about the root notes IMO. Hold down the low end and the rhythm and leave the weedly-wee to the guitarists. ?
