Venues: Band Photos????

Hi Guys,

So we're planning a photo shoot for the band.

So first up is location.

We're all based in Pretoria so that is the vicinity we're looking at.

Anyone have any pointers? (Not Sammy Marks's ruins pls...been done to death!)

stay away from the forest and the train station. to many have destroyed this location with bad photos.

get pictures that fit with the band

speaking of train stations there is a dilapidated one out Cullinan way whcih i thonk could be used to good effect. Also at Cullianan Mine there may be some heavy earth machinery which could be used.

Hartebeespoort dam wall could be used but from the other side , ie the non dam side ..band standing with this huge wall behind you ...

those platinum mines out rustenbrug way could also provide some great backdrops and a tongue in cheek one too , ie platinum selling albums and the like

u gotta analyze what you want to portray and take it from there i reckon.

As I understand you there is a deserted train car somewhere in the Harties area, think you might find it with a bit of Googling. Then the old rustenburg highway...it gets used a lot for movies. However this hasn't got a huge amount of possibilities, but still... a band, a deserted road, maybe an old F100 bakkie or the like... Or maybe...band walking side by side, guitarcase in hand, walking through a scrap yard....Ohh and if your looking for old american vehicles in good nick you might want to use in pretoria area PM me, the guy also has a scrap yard by the way...

My favourite band photos are always live ones...

Get the photographer to shoot a gig with positioning that gets the whole band in. Do a good backdrop.

I always thought that a band walking along a deserted train track with overgrowth would look good, then a similar one of them walking away.

I saw some a while back taken in black and white at an old putt putt course and damn they looked good. Everything was haggard and urban decay was in full swing.

There's an old chap out Roodepoort way with a large yard full of old (mostly) American cars & piles of parts in various states from good to shonked.

Get into the "For Sale" submenus and you'll see pics of the yard.

Just avoid anything with a few Harleys in it, unless you're a Poison tribute band.

You don't have to go that far.

That's still in Pretoria somewhere. I snapped that on our recent trip out to Cullinan. That can't have been more than 10 minutes out of the Hermanstad station that Friends of The Rail use, and the train wasn't going very fast.
