Cool so are you also going to join?

Squonk

Will be great to see you guys there ?

@ PieterHefer

I was scared to death to perform in front of an Audience. It took me a year to get the courage to do it, after reading about TJ's on the threads and Bob's gentle prompting! ?

I was(still am ?) a bedroom guitarist and could play bits and pieces of songs, riffs etc. Setting the deadline for the open mic, I managed to get 3 songs together, intro's, endings and all that's in between. Changed my mindset and my confidence.

Lots of good advice on the Forum, make sure you are well practiced, have all the right gear and accessories(capo's) and spares(strings, Batteries etc)

see you there

Nitebob wrote Okay Pieter, let's you and me bite the bullet... Last Thursday in May, we load our guits in my Indian Hummer and fall out at TJ's. I've been threatening forever to go...you in?
Ok XRB I think it sounds like a plan. You also from the Pta area?

OK, there's a lot of confusion doing the rounds. Let's just clear one or two things up.

1. @PieterHefer, there are two Bobs. X-rated Bob (XRB) who started the thread and lives in Jhb, and Nitebob who is considering the trip from Pta to TJ's and who invited you to go with him.

2. @Nitebob and @PieterHefer, which Thursday night do you intend to go to TJ's now? The last Thursday of May (next month) or the last Thursday of April (this month)? I'd like to be there if you're gonna come but I will be in the States next month so I was hoping you're referring to April but mistakenly said May.

3. @XRB, which is the Thursday night that you're hosting, 26 April or 31 May? Who's hosting the other one?

I'm hosting the open mic night on 31st May. I'm not sure who is hosting 26th April.

Nitebob

For a moment there I thought you said two boobs (really need to have these eyes tested) I am in Cape Town till 16th, could make it in April. Would've like to meet XRB as well, maybe I should do both...

Pieter...April?

I'm usually at open mic nights because I like them and because I actively look for performers to "promote" to the bigger stage. So even if I'm not running the night I'm usually there, though not necessarily playing.

Keira-WitherKay

yeah you guys should go and perform.............. TJ's is great enviroment

but interesting to see more forum members in moot area in pta , i live here too so does another forum member who actively plays who live a few streets from me.........and zohn is a stone's throw from me too .and i know of a few in centurion ........ .. maybe after the easter weekend madness......... i will consider setting up a similar open mic near us ....maybe in may ... in pta ...........thats of course if there's interest ..... i have the gear and lighting ........ and experience running these open mic's and know of a venue too ....... mmmmmmmm the wheels are turning

Nitebob

Awesome idea Keira, if anyone can pull it off you can...let me know if you need help. I'm sure guys from further afield like Centurion would also support it, then you can add Norio and Pieter...

Keira-WitherKay

oh don't worry if it happens i'll rope in all the help i can ........ but i see you regularly so will keep you posted,

and as long as we have 4 - 8 people interested ..by interested i mean who will play i'm sure i can set it up .....thats the easy part ...... so start collecting names ....... ?

and of course we must do like tj's............... and keep it acoustic and low volume.....

but i'm sure it can happen cos for someone like me living in Pta where you live too........to get to tj's it's about a 160km round trip ..... so maybe something closer may be a good thing.

i'll start another thread about it after the weekend and see who's interested and in the area ........

PieterHefer

@ NB, so will we be going to both April and May?

Ok @ Deefstes, I think I may have got this was totally wrong! haha Appologies for that.

I was actually referring to the one in may but I suppose we can attend both and play in may? That way we don't have to play in front of strangers but actually know some of the people in the crowd! ?

But I will say that I will commit to the one in May if nothing comes up at work, and I need to travel. But that should not be the case.

Squonk,

Thanks for the advice, it's not that I haven't played in front of people ? I was in a band for a couple of years, but I think it is quite different to be in a band vs solo performances. But you right, ons must just set a date and commit!

So I will try and get a few songs that should be interesting and start getting them down!

Yep, I think a pta / Centurion open mic night will be great. I also have a little PA that should do the trick for acoustic gigs.
Looking forward to the thread, and to be honost looking forward to take the music beyond the home studio again! ?
Although I play in a PW band, it is always nice just to perform as well!

Nitebob

Suddenly concerned... It's been about 18 years since I've done guitar and vocals only. I've been more in the backtrack state of mind for a while...not chickening out...just saying...
