I hear the NS10s sound really terrible.. People say they should be used as a secondary reference.
no, not really.
they were pretty good at giving the (rather) truth about you mix but you really had to know
them well and know how to work with them.
if it sounded good on an NS10 it is likely to sound good everywhere else
most engineers would use paper ontop the tweeters as they were nice and bright
but you would just HAVE to look at the woofer in order to see how much bottom end youre pushing
as you couldnt really hear the bass ?
when it looks like the cone is about to blow then your bottom end is just right hehehe ?
when you do get to that level of knowing the NS10's like you know your own reflection
then your mixes would be PERFECT ( as perfect as a mix could be)
the problem is that acoustics are so crucial for these monitors that it
can only be done after you mix 100 albums in a great balanced room.
(yes, im exaggerating a bit)
I know the world is divided into three:
1 - those who cannot mix without them
2- those who cannot stand them.
3 - and those who like Kit Kat
?
Im still trying to get my mixing as accurate on my 10 year old monitors (that are way better)
as I managed to do so on the NS10's in the old days
