Building an electric guitar from teak?

Anyone seen one done before? Got some really nice slabs this morning of fresh cut Rhodesian Teak and damn it's fine..........Wouldn't be too sure about the neck, but a chambered body seems deff do-able. I'd be looking at doing an explorer, so some weight saving would be a good idea. ANyone?

Aaaalso, wood has a natural anti-bacterial / anti-microbal effect. Better than using plastics to cut on, if you use it properly

When I start to plane the wood down and do my template, then I'll start a thread. But It's got to wait for a while as I have to start the parts collection process. New tail peice and bridge, new tuners, and fret wire. The rest will be built over from my Hamer explorer and then the body and neck sold.

That's cool. Now you at least have a decent foundation to start off with where you’ll at least be guaranteed a good result at the end of the day. ?

Just as a matter of interest, what is the origin of the mahogany? South American is about the best at the moment, pity Honduran mahogany is off limits though.

It's Peruvian Mahogany. I had a choice on African (Khaya....sp) mahogany as well but I found my last dealings with the wood to be pretty hard as well. Other choice was some nice stuff from Brazil, but couldn't justify the almost double price tag. The peruvian stuff has one or two very minor imperfections on one side, but that's all going to be cut away for the lower section of the guit.
