@ Tailon - A minor misunderstanding - I meant throw away the side cover and the case cooling fan , its usually attached to the side cover and is the worse noise offender. I've been running intel without side cover and case fan since P1 days I have done a lot of monitoring with without and uniformly found that the CPU in my environment run 5 degrees cooler without cover and fan. I have even chucked the cpu fans on P2 and P3 without much trauma (does run about 10 degrees hotter).
BTW the fastest way to pump up a CPU temperature is run a graphics intensive program, like a game or the anachronistic "screen saver"
