Vox AC30 makeover.....oh no...not again !

I recently bought this oldie (a 1967 model) here in Cape Town. Cool looking and all that 8) However on closer inspection at home later that day, I discovered that the cab must have got wet during storage. The ply was lifting in many places (see top of cab) and the baffle board was lekker vrot. So Gene vd Meulen performed his usual magic and the result is quite brilliant. We had to get a ply baffle board made and it's not easy to find plywood of the required thickness...fortunately it worked out nicely.

It will be loaded with vintage Vox alnico speakers. Note the dark diamond grill cloth...correct for that period.

Hi Rikus, yes I have had a quite a few AC30's over the years. Currently I have six, but sold an unrestored one just last week. Unfortunately it's becoming very expensive to restore these amps mainly because all the materials have to be imported from the UK which is very expensive.... even over there. So this one may be my last project. It's OK if you pay next to nothing for the unrestored amp, but those days are long gone I'm afraid.

6! Respect! More power to you I say. Making the world a better place one neglected AC30 at a time... although I can believe that it gets expensive quickly to get the materials every time.

This is a type of project that's right up my alley. Who knows, I might stumble across a neglected AC30 at some point.

Luc, I got it from the UK. Even there it's now difficult to find...eventually we hooked up with Keith Twain overthere who sourced it...dunno from who. Be careful...there is fake Vox cloth available which does not look exactly like the real thing.
