For some reason I cannot stand that song by Everything but the Girl that goes, " I miss you, like the deserts miss the rain" (even typing it makes me shudder and I was not going to give them the satisfaction of another view of the music video on YouTube to get the link)

"Worst song ever" - with such a wide range of crap songs available to choose from, how could you ever arrive at a consensus of which is worst? ?

Two Pints of Lager - falls into that particular and peculiar category of "British Gimmick Hits" for which there is no real explanation (Lily the Pink, et.al.). When we Brits get silly, we get real silly. I think it has something to do with Music Hall, which still has an influence on British music and pops up in the strangest places.

I gave some thought to this. What IS the worst song of all time. I started considering various candidates. The result of all this is that I came out in several rashes, need large doses of anti-depressants, my head aches from banging it against the wall and my hands can't stop shaking.

Very disturbing. Much better to think about the opposite question. I can't come up with a winner there either, but the ruminations are much more pleasant.

Haha. I can see how that song would be considered the worst ever but in a strange way I've always liked it.

Interesting. I couldn't say that it's a great song but, for me, certainly not the worst ever. Curious to know, what is it about this song that you dislike that much? I guess I like it because I associate it with a certain era. The "You need the Hippo" version of it though... now there's a different story.

I love Dah, Dah, Dah. It's very Dada. ? I even know all the words to the German version. I want to work on a solo version sometime (which is always a challenge with sparse arrangements).

Just shows how subjective these things are ... I love that song! But then so do a million kindergarten teachers! Its a staple at my kid's pre-school. Seriously, I think Paddy McAloon is a genius - so I'm biased. But admittedly even he (and Macca) had his doubts about this one:

The song was about a 'Rock n Roll' star, tired of performing the same hit over and over again - an irony not lost on Paddy as the years went by. He wrote the track in twenty minutes, and even at the time thought it was embarassingly ridiculous. Paddy once told Paul McCartney, 'I'm not sure that record did us any good, because it's taken as a kiddie record,' to which McCartney replied 'Yeah, Paddy, I suppose that song's your "My Ding-a-Ling" (referring to the infamous track that was Chuck Berry's only US #1.)

Truth be told, Prefab Sprout IMHO only recorded their masterpiece (Jordan: The Comeback) after this song, so fair play, Deefstes! ?
