As for how they got into the instruments without damaging them, don't know.
As for the exposure, particularly inside the violin and guitar, it appears there was some HDR (High Dynamic Range) techniques applied in which multiple exposures are merged allowing minimal blown-out highlights and minimal completely dark shadows.
If HDR was actually used (especially in the violin and guitar), it was very subtly done and gives a nice effect.
