Have anyone here tried the Addian Silver Plectrums? I bought one in London and it sounds awesome. I have been looking around in SA and the only place I can find them is on www.muz.co.za.
Has anyone else ever plays with it?

I prefer my R5 jim dunlop pics

WOW ??? ??? ???

Yeah, they are pricy, but man do they feel good. I have also seen them go for quite a lot second hand. look I found this info on www.addiansa.com
A feature they did in musicmaker magazine. They do cool plastic ones too. haha
The guy that sold it to me was quite right when he said that my gibson deserves something better than a 50p piece of junk. Even the plastic ones are nice. Just my opinion.
I heard that Ronny Wood has a lot of them, as well as Dave Gilmore.

I'm sure theyre more jewelry than pick. Then the price makes sense, but I still won't pay it, tho. Will ask my Gibson tonight what he thinks! ?

A lot of them? ??? ??? ???
Yes guys, HOW DARE you spend more on your guitar than your plectrums. I mean gosh, what actually gives you your tone? Your timbre'll be indescribably better. ?
thepickman
haha. You don't spend nearly as much on plectrums as your guitar! haha
I bought it because it sounds good. It does have some blung value, but to be honest with you, it's a great conversation starter and almost everyone I've taught bought one.
You need to feel the weight of it! it's not heavy...haha
Hey. I love brazilian mahogany as much as the next one, but what do you spend on such a piece of timber that you can get for about R800bucks! haha obviously the wood has more of an impact, trust me I love fine timbers. But if you could enrich your sound or not have to spend as much money on guitars, why wouldn;t you?
haha
What do you guys play?

I think the VERY REASON you won't see them in shops here locally is BECAUSE of the price - great for doctors and lawyers, but for the working masses - nope.
When I was still at Bothners a guy came round offering them - mystery prize to the member who figures out why they don't appear as a stock item now ! ?
The whole point of the pick is that it is MEANT to be cheap and replaceable - can you imagine if you lost your R 800 odd pick at a gig ?
Should it be INSURED ?
The other minus side to metal picks is the lovely scrape marks they leave all over your guitar if you aren't a super neat picker - beware boys and girls ! ?
To thepickman: You wouldn't be SELLING these items by any chance would you ?
Matt-White
Yup, I agree. I use and lose them all the time...
BTW: I picked up ( ?) a nice tip in a mag ages ago. You make a hole in the middle of your plectrum with a paper punch. It never slips and since you outomatically 'feel' where the hole is, the plectrum is in exactly the same spot between your fingers every time. Sound stupid, but it really works for me. Less plectrums on the floor these days...

Vintage Vibe: Because having something that's so against logic is not worth selling? Not many people can afford to spend as much on a pick as they do on a guitar case? Not many people would spend as much on a pick as they do on groceries? Because there are MUCH better alternatives (Sterling silver for one)?
What do I win? ? ? ?

All agreed then: lets leave the monetary picking to Brian May, and God Save The Queen ?

Pickguy (or should I say Craig?). You are affiliated with Addian South Africa. As such this post is a blatant shill for your product and you are in direct violation of forum rules.
You are welcome to stay around here and take part in other discussion, but you must state your affiliations in your signature and must refrain from making blatant advertising posts like these. Any repeat will result in immediate banning.
Sadly, your underhanded marketing methods, trying to pose as a simple end user have probably already damaged your chances of selling this product to anyone on this forum, regardless of how good a product it is.

haha. NO I don't currently sell them. But I was looking to maybe buy bulk and sell on. Well spotted. I am Craig yes. Do you have the contact details for the importers?
I do have to tell you, that although you might prefer to spend the money on timber, which makes sense. And I completely agree that on an Acoustic guitar where the resonans of the wood is directly responsable for the brightness of the sound, on electrics it works slightly different. The wood plays a massive role, but it is all about the resonance and the strenght and tonal pluck that the strings respond to. And the strings actually conduct the sound through the solid body.
Now it only makes sense that what you plcuk it with actually determines the strength of the signal and the cycle continues. Thus if you play with a tin pick you get a different tone to the thicker ones, and the same for tortex versus nylon.
This has started an interesting debate! haha I must also ask you something. What happens if you loose your guitar? It's expensive so you try your best not to!
What guitars do you guys play? I spoke to a guy the other day from Maton Guitars. He had this guitar with Queensland Maple, I think it was the M22something.. M225 I just checked their website. Has anyone played one? I am trying to find out where to get them from.
I am sorry if I offended you Alan and everyone else.

Thanks Matt. Yup I know - I have access to all the info (and saw it before it changed anyway) - which is why I said that... I've forwarded this topic to Addian UK (the head office apparently).
Oh well, maybe other's will learn how NOT to market their products from his negative example.
