Anyone ever stuck in a rut?(I know I am)

I have gone as far as buying books , downloading you tube instructional video's but still can't get over that hurdle.

This is where GFSA has huge BENEFITS

Spent some time with Joe Moore (Joel) on Saturday and jammed a little bit and Joel showed me some stuff that switched some lights on....

The secret is - go and meet other musicians, see how they do things, there could also be a mutual sharing of ideas...

At X stock, Bob shared a lesson on Travis Picking, learned a lot that day, might have seemed nothing to Bob.

i think wizard summed it up good at the GFSA cpt jam, he said he learned alot of stuff in an hour with a room full of musos that you cant really learn from the internet

Playing with others is always the best way to get over a rut. Even a far less experienced player can teach you things or set you off on a new direction.

True Squonk. My initial reloaded enthusiasm for guitar has been sustained by the musical encounters that have been generated directly or indirectly by this forum.

Speaking of Travis-picking, I was playing with mates this evening, and I realised that I was Travis-picking as easily with pick and fingers as I was with fingers only a year ago. It had moved out of my gunsights but now I had to recall that this was a goal fulfilled. It's kind of hard to mark your progress - and some of the inspiration I get from members comes from envy of what they can do that I can't. But occasionally you realise that you've passed a mark without even realising it. But GFSA members have definitely been a huge factor in keeping it going.
