My understanding is that for signature model acoustics the endorser gets all the prototypes - which would include the one which he deems to be OK. And, of course, a commission on the sales. Simpson's done at least 3 signature deals - the latest being with PRS.
Those Sobells are magnificent - there's a youtube video of Darrell Scott playing one of his OM's on one of his Crooked road recordings - check it out - good stuff.

Yes.... very nice instruments. And interesting too. They've a slightly arched back and top, despite there being a hole in the middle.
