Repainting an Acoustic Guitar

OK... So i've got this Aria semi-acoustic guitar, just over a year old, perfect condition... except for a few scrathes and the colour... if i want to get someone to totally repaint it, about how much should it cost me?

And does anyone know where i should start asking???

It's a big job and there are a lot of factors that affect the price: if it's a set neck, bound neck and/or body, the types of wood (open grain like mahogany or closed-grain like maple), the type of finish that's on there now and the type of finish you want putting on. All of these things affect the price and there's a good chance that a complete refinish will end up costing as much as the guitar is worth ...and maybe even more.

You don't mention where you are, so it's difficult for anybody to tell you who to take it to.

Also is it an acoustic (as in the thread title) or a semi-acoustic (as in the body of your message)? Or did you mean an acoustic/electric? In my experience people always get these terms mixed up.

Journey down to Jo'burg this weekend and make enquiries at Andy McGibbons guitar world. Andy and his team do great work (I don't work there, am just a satisfied customer).

Personally I wouldn't worry too much about the colour and some dings if everything else is right - unless I had loads of money and could be without the guitar for the time it takes to do a decent job.

Most probably it will entail stripping the guitar right down to the wood and then respraying. Might necessitate a new scratch plate. I doubt this will be cheap.
