What's happenned to prices of brands like Ibanez and Epiphone?

I was shocked when I heard the wholesale prices on some guitars
that used to be cheap... then again... that was 8 years ago... and
I might be naive about inflation. My Epiphone blackbeauty cost
R3700 about 7 years ago. Now wholsesale is over R6000 I believe.
A Ibanez SZ series used to be about R1500 wholesale. I'm pretty sure that
has also changed now.

So I have become inspired to sell some of my old guitars since they appear
to be worth more than I realized, even second hand.

Is the rise in price simply inflation?

And how much do you think a second hand Ibanez SZ is worth these days, without
taking wear and tear into consideration too much. To be realistic, take the standard
wear as "scratch a bit where the pick guard doesn't exist".

I think that it's also the market at the moment. I bought an AR 300 that was sitting for a week for R2000 and the seller only had 1 bite..............sign of the times.

The Rand hasn't done very well over the last decade, plus yearly price increases.

Actually, I think Ibanez have done a very good job of keeping prices down and quality up. Plus they have expanded their range without any major missteps.

I can't believe that this would inspire you to sell your old guitars.
Unless you have too many or you need some money, whatever.

You might have a point.
Well, I have 7 guitars of which I use 3.
My Takamine Nylon that I use.
My modded Epi Les Paul which is my work horse.
My Silvertone which is a lot like a Epiphone Dot.
I use it for teaching since it can be used unplugged.
Then I have a Hamer which I can use as a backup,
an old Ibanez SZ
a Philpro which was my first electric
And an Ibanez 5-string Bass...

On top of that my custom guitar will be finished sometime before the year
3000.
