NPD! - TC Electronic Flashback

Warren

So...I was looking for a delay pedal and a looper pedal. Turns out I could get by with just one! 8)

Been playing around for an hour or so, really easy to use, awesome sounding delay.

Clever stuff, like how the looper works with the single footswitch (double-tap to clear, for example), and it has a tap tempo mode if you keep the footswitch depressed and strum the rhythm on your guitar. Also has a "tone print" feature where you can download presets online via USB, which I haven't tried yet.

Very small too! Not overly complex. The looper is loads of fun, I was building up a whole orchestra of Strats ? Max loop length is 40 seconds, so nothing like the functionality of a dedicated looper) but it suits my purpose perfectly for now.

I also compared it directly with a Way Huge Aqua Puss and a Wampler Analog delay. Both of them sounded loads better than the Way Huge pedal (I was a little disappointed in it TBH), but the TC pedal trumped them all feature-wise, and in terms of sonic variety.

Not too expensive either, I paid just under R2000. 8)

TC Pedals are feature packed and sound fantastic. Top rated in my books and I'd pick them above any other except for drives and fuzz.

I agree! I have this and the Polytune, and I'm very happy with both. I've also had a go on the Nova Delay, Nova Drive etc. and they're all excellent. If the Nova System wasn't a bit too much money at the moment that's what I would have gone for (there have been two going for R4k or so on Gumtree recently).

I got the iB Modified Nova Delay. Such a cool toy! The reason I went for that over this, is that it has programmable presets.

I'd really like to give the rest of TC's new range a bash..

Nice buy Warren. I bought the Hall Of Fame Reverb recently and the Flashback is next on my list. I really enjoy the TC pedals and may look at the Chorus as well.

I am selling my Line 6 DL4 to get a Flashback. They just seem to be very good at making delays! My DL4 has never really done it for me and it takes up about 30% of my pedalboard!

But also cosidering the Line 6 M5 which appears to be life a swiss army knife for a pedalboard, but will the delay satisfy?!

The Line 6 M-series delays are amazingly good. Better than the DL4, they improved on it. It depends whether you want tap tempo or strum tempo. I think an M5 with possibly something controlling it via MIDI could be quite powerful. TC makes great effects, but the delays are very pristine, and you either like that or you don't. They don't do the dirty, lo-fi delay thing well at all.

Thanks Frodo. On the M5 you can only use one effect at a time which makes me think that having a seperate delay would give me more versatility in the context of mixing other effects with delay like chorus, phaser, tremelo etc.

I know, but with something controlling it you could scroll through presets. All it comes down to is, what type of delay are you looking for? Analog/digital/presets/tap tempo etc?

The M5 is like a separate delay pedal - you can just ignore all the other effects it has if you want to.

Congrats Warren.

Just got back from new york with a line 6 m5 and a lovepedal eternity. Willmgive them a good tryout at band practice and hope i have done good! Some very nice gear in nyc, loved the strymon tape and bucket delays, very very very nearly bought one but they are still pricey even in dollars and new york is not exactly cheap!
