GFSA became unusable (for me)

Hi all GFSA members.

A friendly request...

In the past I spent my time between teaching music classes at a school on GFSA. Very fruitfully I might ad. NO MORE!

The webmaster at our scool used to have had some fair amount of search words blocked to prevent school kids from downloading tons of youtube videos but now, this year, he's taken it to ridiculous extremes...

ALL URL's containing any word like 'music, song, hit, single, tune ,video, clip, mp3' and through my experience it seems also evrything along the vain of 'favourite, famous, star, band, idol, beat, play, new, release, pulse, super, vibe, melody, anthem, pop, rock, metal, singer, artist, grammy, award, winning, record, top, featuring, awesome, vocals, lyrics, words, rhythm' and to tell the truth my imagination falls short of coming up with whatever else he could have connected with ways users might abuse the system.

All I find is that every secind post I might want to check out throws an ERROR at me!

So could y'all please make future post headings more in the line of:

STIMULATING FREQUENCY- AND TIMBRAL-VARYING YET REGULARLY EMPHASIZED AMPLITUDINAL AURAL EVENT OF OUR PARTNERSHIP (OF MEMBERS PRACTICING AFOREMENTIOND PHENOMENA) TO BE EXPERIENCED ON WELL-KNOWN FREELY HOSTED VISUAL IMAGE STREAMING INTERNET SIGHT WITH ME EMPLOYING MY RECENTLY AQUIRED PIECE OF EQUIPMENT FEATURING A WOODEN SLAB AND SEVEN OBLONG ARTIFACTS MADE OF SOMETHING THAT IS NOT WOOD, PLASTIC, OR ANY OTHER SYNTHETIC MATERIAL.

This is gonna take a long process of elimination. I found the 'saddest song' post is inaccessible. But I suspect it's the song part. I will have to put up some random posts containing words I find suspect and check it for myself. THen I can update my list from time to time to keep you all informed.

Seems a bit Draconian. Surely if you are the music teacher you can make a case for relaxing some of the rules - at least on your terminal? Research for lesson planning, etc... Heck, if they just block all the media and archive formats, they have eliminated 90% of the abuse of a system without having to resort to blacklisting keywords in URLs.

I wonder if there is a way to browse the forum using post ID's instead of the "friendly" urls? Basically sidestepping the mod rewrite?

Ja, I plan to take it up with the guy - I just felt like releaving some of my frustration through a bit of banter.
I can't even open the post - GAS list for 2012. Now what word in there might have made his bad list for what reasons, I wonder?

Maybe the powers that be haven't figured out URL shorteners yet, i.e. bit.ly and the like. It is effort yes, but it may work.
