arjunmenon Hey guys. A little while ago I finished a 5W SE tube amp. 1 x 12ax7 and 1 EL84. The amp sounds awesome (unfortunately no recording facility). It has a very nice crunch to it, but want to add a boost to the signal just to push the tubes a bit harder for more drive.... Been pondering either building a DOD OD250 or a MXR MicroAmp both are easy to build and basically the same circuit. Which one would you guys suggest?
AlanRatcliffe I don't know the Micro Amp, but the OD250 makes for a good booster for mid heavy amps like Voxes and Marshalls - it keeps the lows tight and adds a nice character of it's own. In it's stock form, it's not completely transparent (especially if you are going to build a version with a 741), but that is one of the attractions IMO.
Nicholas-L Hey Mike. I by accident posted under Arjun's name. :-[ Forgot to log him out of the system. Yes the amp has a tone stack.
MikeM My bad Cool, considered the SHO? EP Booster? Old Boost and Buff? Micro amp is pretty cool though.
Attila Nicholas, I dont know your circuit, but it would be quite easy to drive the 1st or 2nd stage preamp a little harder through switching one or two components in or out, I am sure the forumlites can add thier collective wisdom with ease. I am going to be tacking on a dynamic compressor circuit to experiment (play) with on my SEL. - thanks to Joel's influence a week ago.

Nicholas-L Attila I build an AX84 P1 with a different tone stack. I just want to push the preamp a little harder.... I've even pondered the idea of using the Valvecaster.
