This is one of 4 demo tracks my band have put together. Already have
a recording contract offer, but we will wait before we make any choices.
I still need to do logos and press packages etc.

There might be some EQ/mastering issues since I am still modifying things and testing.
Let me know.

I guess we are just a rock/hard rock band these days.

This is pretty kool, got an old school thrash thing going on, kind of megadeth/metallica/testament/anthrax.

Only negatives for me are the pinch harmonics but that's just because I think anyone who does a pinch harmonic should be put to sleep........for ever...........it's the worst thing ever to be done on guitar..............makes me wish the instrument was never invented!

Have you listened to the bridge part of Love of my Life by Queen?
If a pinch harmonic can be used that tastefully, I love it. ?
The mix the engineer did was way more bassy and less toppy
but I ran it through an EQ copy tool and the mix I uploaded
was copied from Metallica. I'm concerned that the vocals might be
a bit piercing sometimes.

Those eq copy things never work, not unless your working with the same sounds as metallica to begin with, in which case I hardly think you'd need one of them, probably doing more harm than good to your track, where there boosts are might be the LAST place yours should be etc.

Well, if anyone is interested, here is the unaltered version we got from the engineer.
It sounds good, but when compared to most other albums out there the tops seem lacking and the bass seems
like it's too much. Opinions on the mastering-limiting in terms of comparison will also be welcomed.

Lol, I'm not a great judge of these things... I think the overall effect is perfect for the genre though...
And I have to add that the songs seem VERY monotonous, but that is just my lack of understanding the genre.

You definitely overcooked that track, I played around with the original a bit myself and it's difficult (the recording/mix has some pretty big problems all over the place), it's got a lot of harshness so whatever you do to bring up the high end, even just a tiny bit, really exaggerates that harshness.

(I can mail you a version if you want, but it's not that much of an improvement?)

It's extremely monotonous, I have to scrap it or rework the whole thing, even the mix sounds odd when I hear it now for the first time in months.

Not sure I would use it since I'm a control freak... but thanks for the info. I just got new files from the engineer... dint even know he was working on it... so let's check those out first.

Oh and since we already have at least 1 recording deal on offer I guess I can rework the songs anyway...

I know nothing about metal (I wouldn't know Anthrax from Scrofula), but thought the songs are fairly good. Obviously, being a mellow kinda dude, I preferred the more mellow / ballad type track. ?

As for pinch harmonics: they're one of the signature sounds of the electric guitar IMO, and can be used incredibly effectively. Guys like Eric Johnson, Paul Gilbert and Billy Gibbons all use them to punctuate certain melody lines in a way that you can only do on an electric guitar. 8)

Thanks Warren. I do adore Paul Gilbert and Eric Johnson... Not to mention that Paul is a soooooper nice guy.
