Converting Floyd-Rose type bridge to fixed bridge

Hey everyone

First of all, please forgive my probable lack of technical terms in the following post ?

I have a Jackson Dinky (not sure of exact model) with a Floyd-Rose type bridge. Long story short, it doesn't work for me. I've had it blocked, but I'm still not entirely happy with it, so I was wondering how difficult it would be to just replace the bridge altogether with a fixed type.

I'm thinking one can simply remove the bridge, fill up the cavities with wood, and then attach the fixed bridge? Not so simple?

I'm not scared of a long job, I'm more worried about what the chances are of the guitar actually functioning correctly after the surgery

It can be done (the guitar in my profile on the left is a conversion from hardtail to trem and then back again ?). However, it does depend entirely on who is doing the work as to how good the result is. Takes quite a bit of work to custom fit two pieces of wood to fill the block and spring cavities entirely without using too much glue as a filler. A quality hardtail bridge as well as good wood of the same type as the rest of the body is preferable too.

On the other hand it can be cheaper and easier to simply sell the guitar and buy one with a fixed bridge, so it's often only really viable with a guitar with some sentimental attachment.

There is a tutorial on how to convert a floyd to a fixed bridge in the way Alan describes above on projectguitar.com

Just do a search for "projectguitar.com hardtail conversion". Looks like a fair bit of work and skill is involved though and you would ideally want to refinish the whole guitar. I'm considering doing this to an Ibanez RG570 that I'm currently hotrodding as I bought it with the Lo-Trs bridge instead of the original Edge bridge which would have been far superior and more stable. Original Edges are pricey :/

Yep, I picked it up like third-or-fouth-hand, '91 MIJ model which originally came out with the original Edge. It's definitely been replaced somewhere along the line, that's definitely no original Edge plus the trem rout is a little bit too big (lo-TRS is about 3/4 inch shorter than the Edge). It's a pity but the guitar was dirt cheap because it needed a lot of attention and I may just see if I can pick up a second-hand Schaller or Edge trem on Ebay when I have some spare cash. The original 1-piece Wizard neck is AMAZING! ?
