To me they are a lame version of the current trend in indy, songs that sound like the leftovers from the last coldplay album, costumes that bands wore 5 years ago. My opinion (call it uneducated if you will) is they've built their popularity by emulating rather than innovating, not much creativity required.Whatever makes the 16yr old girls happy I guess, which is the true measure of rock and roll success.
Yip.... they have been critised in the past for not being very creative and so on.....and I must agree that to me, on the surface at least, they're not unique or anything like that.
Maybe part of the answer to "why they're not that popular in some circles" lies in our diverse tastes and preferences.....For example, and to take an extreme example, I totally dislike the music of "
Rudi and Corlia", and I can't stand the image they portray...however both of them are extremely talented people (ask Keira about the talents of Rudi...she briefly worked with him) and as a muso, I respect their individual talent without which they would have been totally unknown to anyone in SA . The same goes for the Parlotones and many many other acts IMHO.
