Hi,
I have recently purchased a new Squire Vintage Modified Jazzmaster..
I got out the box poorly setted up, for example the scratch plate lifts a bit up and the neck has a few bangs. I know its a Squire made by fender blabla..
So I want level out the fret board and clean it up, and fix the scratch plate. I dont want to do the myself because I dont have much experience.
Must I take it back to where I purchased it or get a Luther to set it up for me?
Help would be much appreciated, thanks ?

If it's new then take it back to the shop.

Yup Take it back. If it's new and the neck is dinged, I'd push for another one. Lifting scratchplates are usually due to a poorly aligned screw - the common fix is just to screw out the offending screw a half turn, but ideally I'd want another one where the screws were aligned..

Took it back to the shop, they told me that they will not be able to get me the guitar in the same colour and it a mission. So they told me that I must play it for 2 weeks and take it back for a setup etc.
Well its a Squire and its mass produced in Indonesia, and the price I paid for it was a give away. I think after a good setup and some TLC the guitar will be great. The tone and playability is really good for a Squire.
I'm going to keep the guitar and just mod it if need to..

It does not matter what you paid for it. I heard a article on the radio the other day on the customer protection act. During the first 6 months of your purchase, you have a choice if something is wrong. You can get it fixed, replaced or your money back.

Those being the options, I'd go for 'get your money back'... If they gave you a dodgy axe, chances are they'll get a dodgy luthier to fix it. If they can't get you another one in the colour you require, either get your mony back or ask them to pay for it being set up by a luthier of your choice, not theirs...

There's one underlying problem here. Where TF are the pics? ?
Frankly, I'd rather go through a mission to get the guitar I want at the right quality than a dud. Don't settle for poor quality.

Definitely, you're being spun a story to see if you bite and they get away with it. As a consumer you have all the rights.. They need to make right at their expense, get you a replacement or give you back your dosh. There's only one person losing out if you accept it.
Give em hell, and where's the emoticon of this thread is worthless without pics >☹

Worst of all I went all the way to there shop this morning to take it back and they spun me that "story" and I got a fine on the way back to work for not wearing a safety belt.
Sorry I would like so post some picture's but my time is a bit limited.
I'm going to call them NOW!! >☹
