Ibanez HR Giger Iceman

Hey everyone!

I'm kinda new to the forum. I've been a member for awhile but I've never posted anything before.
But anyway, I was wondering... I have an Ibanez ICHRG2, which is a limited edition model with graphics by HR Giger, its been discontinued for a while now.
I've just seen one on ebay going for 1100USD (which is about R8400), and I was wondering, if I were to resell mine I could expect a similar amount here in SA?

Dunno if this is the right place to be asking this but if anyone could help me, it would be much appreciated.

Looks cool! I would think you could expect more because if you are one of the only people in South Africa to own one, for someone in South Africa to get hold this model they would have to import which means they need to add on delivery costs. I would work out what it would cost to important one of the models new/used and work from there. I think you may also be able to add a bit extra on top because it is limited and not simply by some random dude, Giger is well known. The ebay prices may already include a bit extra for the scarcity of the guitar so you might not need to add on if you are working from those prices but new you might.

What did you pay for it originally if I may ask?

South Africa is quite an annoyingly conservative market, you may be able to sell it at that price or more but you're going to be waiting for a buyer for a while. Essentially you need to choose between waiting a few months to find a buyer and selling it at a comparable value or taking a slight dive on that and moving it fast ?

Not the greatest of markets to be trying to move such a "unique" guitar in really, good luck regardless though ?

I paid about R5000 if I remember correctly, which is why I found the price on ebay quite surprising. I bought it secondhand from a music store and not a private seller though, so I guess they wanted to get rid of it quickly.

Definitely possibe it was in the shop for a while and they wanted to clear it out. It might be like I mentioned, the eBay prices have already been inflated to compensate for the scarcity of the guitar.

I find that the value of more collectable items locally will usually be far below the going rate in the US. Local buyers view it as second hand, look at what it sold for new and knock 25 - 50% off that price. If it was sold retail at a massive discount to get rid of the last few, that affects the value of all the secondhand sales too. That's why there are guys shipping the more valuable collectables overseas to sell them.
