Dm type intro, need help with Scales...
Squonk
It"s late, got some inspiration....
Fingerpicking Acoustic
Dropped D
Got a bit of a D minor thing going
My blues scale not Assisting me at all...
What scale should I attempt to add some soloing between the picking?
FruitarGeek
By dropped D you mean all the strings or just fat E? If so, surely can still do your minor blues scale, just avoid hitting top E note.
O
Squonk
I need something a bit more exotic than the blues scale
Dropped D, just tuning low E to D so I am getting a bit of drone thing.
So something that will work with minor chords

I was going to attempt to give you the different minor scales. I.e. natural, melodic and harmonic but found this reference... much more in-depth than I would have given.

Hey Squonk the D minor pentatonic scale will probably work better than the D Blues scale. i.e. try avoid the b5 (in this context). This should give you a good solid platform and then try and find some exotic notes in the pentatonic gaps. Also the D minor pentatonic has some open strings in it's make up so you can play combinations of scale notes and open strings higher up on the guitar. This can open up some interesting doors.
Open string notes in D minor pentatonic = D, A, D, G, this leaves just the B and E strings which are not in the minor pentatonic BUT are in the D Dorian mode (a popular minor mode).
Otherwise harmonic minor can add a very distinctive flavour but again I would find the key notes (min6, 7) and learn where they sit in the minor pentatonic gaps.
Just some sunday morning options!
