New Turntable Day ?
Was scrounging some local 2nd hand furniture shops looking for a worktop for my DIY router table, and found this:
Its an old Lenco L70 Mk5.2, bought (including Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge over troubled water and Chet Atkins in Hollywood) for the princely sum of R280. Its got 4 speeds, a heavy platter (8lbs!) and is idler driven. It seems to be in 100% original form.
It had a bent needle, which the shop owner tried to straighten, but it sheared partially. I dabbed some superglue on it and its functional for the moment, but obviously not the perfect solution.
The cartridge in it is an unlabeled Audio Technica, and I've been unable to find a replacement stylus on the net.
So, I'm most likely going to have to get another cartridge for it, which was something I would have planned to do anyway. Does anybody know anything about these things and could you point me in the right direction? I've read that it has a medium to heavy tonearm, that the tracking force should be about 2.5 grams, and that the cartridge should be low compliance, but I have naught but a guess as to what these things mostly mean. People say that DJ cartridges work well.
I've always wanted a player, and it seems I got lucky as these are quite revered in the Audiophile circles overseas. The records are very stuffed, cool to listen to in the meantime until I go to the record shop in Obs to get me some folk, rock n blues ?.
