ha ha ha, WIN!!
I reckon "The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carol" by Bob Dylan is pretty depressing. Not sad or emotional but really depressing.

Nothing compares to you by Sinead O'Conner takes my vote. On its own maybe not such a sad song. The video portrays the emotion in the song so well. Think it is my all time favorite video.

There's really only one for me... Robert Johnson's Love In Vain (and attendant covers).
Well, I followed her to the station with her suitcase in my hand
Well, it's hard to tell, it's hard to tell, but all true love's in vain
When the train come in the station I looked her in the eye
Well, the train come in the station I looked her in the eye
Well, I felt so sad and lonesome that I could not help but cry
When the train left the station, it had two lights on behind
Well, the blue light was my baby and the red light was my mind
Like Renesongs says, it's made even more intense with the lyric: "her suitcase in my hand"
Long distance relationship flashback trauma.
"I Got The Blues" off Sticky Fingers is a close second.

i had a pretty bad time of it listening to black (colin vearncombe) until he got a life on (about) 'are we having fun yet?'. the eponymous 'black' album also had one or two less wrist-slashing tracks, but for the most part the albums leading up to that were pretty depressing, but the man was singing my life with his songs at that time. but my most tear-jerking song of all time, i reckon, has to be don mclean's american pie. don't ask me why. maybe it's because there's so much loss embodied in the song, and for me such a lack of hope, well, looking back now anyway, hell. like i said, that one gets me every time. except when madge sings it. so every time i well up, i have to imagine madonna louise ciccone having a bash or it's tickets.
damn. where's that madonna track now?

Be warned, the bridge is a biter.
Hurt by Cash is also a personal favourite

For some reason Whitney Houston 'I will always love you', touches a nerve - and that is one of many. ?
I used to have to run away and hide (Cry in the stairwell!) whenever the staff at a garment factory I worked at used to sing at our year end functions - (in the canteen) - nothing fancy ?. This was pure heartfelt music coming at you full blast!
'Tears in heaven' is pretty sad ... altho I know it's been sung/done taught to death.

This has been my go to miserable song for years.
Well the original, but Ritchie covering Ritchie is still awesome.

I refuse to sing it or to teach it because I think it can only be done by Eric... it's too personal for anyone else to do it justice.
