Jacques_nasi What would be the best way to fill up dot inlay holes on a rosewood fingerboard? I'm thinking of removing the inlays on my epi Special II (hence the fretwire replacement question on another thread) and covering it up so that there are no inlays on the fingerboard. So my plan thus far is to try and get hold of a bit of rosewood somewhere (maybe an old fingerboard) to cut inly sized dots and glue them in, but I think getting hold if the wood wont be easy, as I only need a very small piece. Any other ideas? ???
AlanRatcliffe Filling with wood is the best thing to do short of replacing the whole board. You can get some headstock plates and use them: http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdproducts.asp?CategoryName=Headplates&NameProdHeader=Headplates Otherwise just get a "sample pack" of woods from Luthier's mercantile which comes in handy for all types of jobs like this: http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdproducts.asp?CategoryName=+Backs+and+Sides&NameProdHeader=+Sample+Woods
singemonkey Sounds like such a mission - and the results are unlikely to look great. Why not get a new board? Wait, does this have crown inlays or dots?
Jacques_nasi Ok, after thinking this through a bit I decided just to leave things as they are, dont want to mess it up. ? In the future I'd like to try a complete build, thinking of doing everything with cheap pine first for practise etc....
