So saturday night went off to go watch some bands at a venue in pta.. Headlining were the kongos, didn't know who they were lol, not bad but not my thing..
A band that totally ruled the roost was Machinerie from kaapstad! Female vocalist with the sexiest bluesy voice, guitar tones to die for, during sound check not sure what amp the guy had but when he turned the volume up and hit the sweetspot I couldn't help but spill my drink in a effort to get a closer look. I'd heard them on the radio but thought they were a US outfit. What a band! Play bluesy rock..
They totally blew the 3 others away.
On a side not and tying in with another thread.. The sound for band 1 and 2 was horrible, waaaaay to loud and boomy. Couldn't even hear what the vocalist was saying between songs, machinerie was better, they were also the only ones who were marginally softer, and then kongos were pretty loud and boomy again..
Also the venue oversold BIGTIME, and there was no bloody ventilation, I walked out halfway through kongos cos I couldn't bloody breath..
All in all, Machinerie are an awesome band, well worth checking out

+1 to everything you said man
I was about 2meters from the front for about half of the show.
People should really start thinking about there crowd ethics.
I saw guy threatening a girl for bumping him, normally it
would be frowned upon, sure, but if there is about 50 people
behind the bumper pushing\falling, there is nothing anyone can
do about it and that is a very logical deduction, besides, what kind
of man threatens a girl?
That littler incident ruined the rest of my evening.
In general, AE is actually a fun place, and i don't think they over sold
considering that they determine the amount of people that can enter
according to the entire venue, but then the band that every one wants
to see start playing and half of the people there want to cram themselves
into a tenth of the venue...
AE should knock down that wall to the left of the stage and extend the stage,
because the stage cannot accommodate then venue.
I'm venting, sorry.
The Newspapers were cool, but i hope they realise that Bon iver is not
as easy to cover as they thought.
I have seen some stuff on youtube of Machinerie prior to the show
it wasn't really that impressive, thou there live show is really up there
with bands like Taxi Violence. Totally worth while.
The myth has been confirmed, the guy from Die Tuin Dwergies
never wears a shirt.
Kongos were good, but I expected better.

I saw Machinerie on MK's Studio 1 and was really impressed, one of the few local bands that immediately impressed me. I agree that the studio recordings weren't as good as the live performance I saw though.

Machinere were featured in rolling stone in january as i recall.... pretty gals who sing the blues are always gonna be popular

Looking forward to seeing Machinerie... as an aside the cover artist for the new album is the same fella (Storm Thorgerson) who did all those Floyd albums, Audiolave, Zep etc. (I stand under correction)

Yes Machineri is a great group to come out of CT recently. The lead guitarist usually plays a tricked out Strat through a JCM and the girl plays a Strat but through a little Hiwatt. TBH, I think I liked the tones coming out of the Hiwatt more ???.
I think the reason why they don't sound great on the recordings is because it was one of those rushed Red Bull affairs and done a long time ago, they've come on leaps and bounds since then.

Yeh Vick, my mates and I were debating the eaxct same thing, if that bloody wall left of the stage wasn't there, there would be so much more space for folks.
The layout of the venue doesn't help. What you said is right though, while the folks were outside at the tables having dop and chow it was ok, when evryone decided to watck kongos and cram into a quarter of the venue space then it went peeeetong quickly lol,
Also would love to know who the moron throwing ice was >☹
