Restoring a Telecaster to a Partscaster

Dev-Marco

Hey people

So I found this old SX Vintage series telecaster in a cupboard ? So I thought instead of just having it lie around, maybe I should sand it down, fit some tele parts and build a nice guitar.

I started sanding today and it has gone well so far. It is not the most beautiful wood, but I figured if I varnish it, it should look nice. The guitar was originally white and the paint job is horrible. Everything which came with it, like knobs, plates etc are gold, but I wanna go to chrome. I am planning on getting the knobs, screws and stuff like that from Terry D, but the rest of the stuff, those that matter, I would like to see if I can get some genuine Fender stuff for cheap ?

So what I need is the following and would like so input or some parts ?
- Fender pup's. I have seen two sets on Gumtree so far (CPT only for now ?):
- http://capetown-westerncape.gumtree.co.za/c-Stuff-for-Sale-musical-instruments-Telecaster-Pickups-W0QQAdIdZ345635798 (These pickups are Alnico III's and I
don't know how good these are?)

I can also get some pup's from Terry D, but the quality most probably wont be so good?

- Decent pods and a 3 way selector switch. I have some which came with the guitar but they are cheap so wanna see what I can get.
- Telecaster bridge. I can get one from Terry D, but I don't know how good quality this will be, to be honest I really don't know what effect a cheap
bridge will have on the guitar itself. http://terryd.co.za/gptsbrie.html
- Fender Machine head. This I have already picked up for a bargain. Got them from a guy on Gumtree for R100 bucks! Genuine Fender Machine, these are the type
of bargains I'm looking for ?

So guys/gals any help will be awesome I really wanna get this thing playing.

I am posting some photo's of my work which I have done so far.

Shot man will do. The thing with the paint job is that it was horrible. It had a lot of damage on the back and on the side it had yellow stripes of being old. So I kinda had to sand it down even if I want to paint it.

My idea so far with the guitar is the following:

I am going to engrave a piece of scripture at the top close to the side of the guitar and embed one of the first pics into the guitar. After that I am going to give it quite a dark varnish. I am still in two minds about the varnish though. I want to go dark because the neck is quite dark, but if I get a maple neck somewhere then the dark varnish might look a bit too dark compared to the neck. So I will have to see a bit later.

I will post photo's tonight of all the current parts and hopefully the parts which I am gonna try and order from Terry's today.
