Overdrive Pedals

So... I know this might star a war so I want to clear the air. This thread is based on OPINIONS! What do you reckon is the best overdrive pedal out there? Regardless of style, type of drive, versatility etc. I simply want to know what each guy's opinion is of the best OD pedal and why. Another Q - Do you guys reckon pedal with actual valves are better than ones without? P.S. PICS ARE AWESOME! ?

On the contrary, I think the MT-2 is the best at what it does. I just don't have much call for "angry mosquito in a can" sounds in my music. ?

I would say the MT-2 is a distortion rather than an overdrive pedal...as are a number of other pedals mentioned in this thread...

Still, whatever floats your death dealing demon flaying battle barge. 8)

So, the overdrive shootout...

I do realise one of the pedals involved is a product I do, so I will not elaborate on this too much for fear of contravening forum rules. I only thought of this now after promising to post the results, so my apologies for this. :-[

I will say that the Tim was the clear winner for transparent OD and was the favourite pedal for two out of three testers. It's without doubt one of the best OD's available and the best at what it does - transparency. That said, I'm not going to keep it.

When playing the songs from my band with the Tim and listening to the tones on our work in progress album, I realise that the Tim can't quite cop those tones - tones played and recorded with less transparent, more compressed and more midrangey pedals. As I don't really have an abundance of board space, and I'm definitely not going to buy or make a bigger board to accommodate one extra pedal, and as I can't figure out what I would actually use the Tim for if not as my main OD, it's going.
