My 2 cents:
A lot of people recommend to not mix 2 different size speakers as this causes a sound differentiation.
That's what ive read on forums like talkbass.
If you have a 12 already, try another 12 and see if you dig it.
I have the markbass 2x10 travellor at 4 ohm and it ggives me plenty of boom for the weight.
I have tried two 1x12 mb cabs together and thought it sounded hhuge however the two 15's blew them out the water ?
So if i were you since you already have a 12 I would get another 12 to match, however if you bought two 15's then you have the capability of using both or just one at a smaller venue
As for live sound, whenever ive gigged i hhave always di'd my bbass. So tthe bass amp has just been uused for stage sound, to make sure that I had "my" sound on stage and in the crowd, I bought a sansamp bass di, it can split signals, so one to my ampp and one to the desk.
I bought a bass amp loud enenough just for my band to hear and let the sound engineer worry about ththe crowd volume

mm okay.... so maybe the 2 12' MB cabs for now...
Last night I compared the 1200w amp conected to the 12' 400w mb cab with my Hartke A100 15' ... somehow the A100 was louder and the 15 produced more Umf ...will the additional 12" cab make the diffrence????
grrrr...All I want is nice solid power, especialy when I use the 5 string music man....
I would like to keep teh whole rig MarkBass, but if the cabs dont cit it, then maybe Hartke Hydrive is the way...

I don't have a problem mixing sizes, but with a 5-string, you really need a 15" in there somewhere (and probably not a compact 15" either). Nothing else will be able to reproduce the extreme lows.

Other than an E comedown of course.
Just kidding, imho 15" is a must for exactly this reason... you need a 15 if you want the sound you described in your original post.

cool, thanks guys for the input... like I said, I'm new to the cab and head thing comming from combo's... sigh
now to get the right settings on this head..

Okay, so last night we band practice at the gallery, and the Drummer said he definitely feels my presence, but this time my cab was in a different spot, so this can also make a huge difference.. To me the A100 was still louder with more rumble… I don’t know, maybe I’m the one with the “load” issues hehehe, maybe one of you guys in Gauteng can help my check out my rig when the other cad arrived?

This needs a new thread ?
But since you ask, my default is (probably counter-intuitively) a slight frown which I then tweak for the room.
D-tox
hehe yea, probably does...I'm still playing with the controls, will see what my new cab does tonight! I think the 2 121 cabs should be okay... thanks to all for the input and advise..
D-tox
so, I got the other 12' cab... and I'm feeling way better now.. I could see on My Kids faces that the rumble is there hehe..
I do think that 2 15's would be boss... but for now I'm happy.. It's a full sound..
thanks to all for the input! it helped allot!
Cheers

Okay so update time...
My main issue was to have enough to deal with our loud guitarist ? he had to sell his gear and so the band stopped..
I got pulled into another band and they will also be using the drummer from our 1st band!! yes!!
did a quick rehearsal on saturday and the original 100w amp was more than enough, the guitarist (use to play bass in the band but could not find a guitarist that could ply in time) plays in a nice warm round type sound! and we also have a propper active bassbin that we will use for the gigs...my amp was @ 4 , where in the past I had to go all the way! >☹
looks like I will sell the monster mark bass setup now ?
It's all about balance

Good news! Just remember that you will still need headroom if you play venues with no PA facilities for the bass....
D-tox
yep! Thanks, I will be using my 100w and the PA bassbin, and will also get one more bassbin for the PA (PA consists of 4x Titans)
Whoo hooo, just got a call, will be playing tonight... without the drummer though ☹... more like a acoustic set! cant wait!

How did it go? ?
D-tox
Thanks for asking!!
It went super well, was only the 3 of us in a acoustic seting, the crowd consisted of more mature folks 45+ age group and about 60 in total, so not too many but was allot of fun, and my Casino that the guitarist used had the sound of chocolate and whiskey ?
we only used three 15' titans ,my 100w bass amp and m 30w marshall, was more than enough for the space, saturday is the big one with the full band! cant wait !! I am supper charged up for this event!
Jack-Flash-Jr
Chocolate and whiskey... cool ?
Have fun on Sat!
