The world is full of things that I don't understand. I've stopped worrying about who buys records by [fill in the blank]. I can never figure it out. What I can do is put money in the pockets of the artists I really do appreciate and think are worthwhile. Well... some of them. An oke only has so much money.

Yeah. Why can't SA put out a hit soft-rock band with neatly sculpted gelled hair? Then we'd be admired. Come to think of it, why aren't the Parlotones much bigger than Die Antwoord? They're sweet, inoffensive - just like all the other break through bands of the past.

I dont really give a rats bee-hind what they look like,,,
if we're talking about true 'musicians' then I'm looking for talent, as in - knows how to play an instrument and is not just a computer operator...
if we're talking about 'artists' then yep they fall into another category.

I just opened the link and got scared so I went away. As for Parlatones, not my cup of whatever but really not so bad and heck, they're quite successful so I'm happy for them. Also a bit jealous like you ouens though.

It's a bit of a shame, Die Antwoord are actually good at what they do, and they had good credibility as artists as Max Normal (even though I was never into their style of music). It really seems like they just decided to cash in all their chips and try to make as much money as possible now.

I believe they dropped their major label because it wanted to mainstream them more... I think they're doing want they want to do and going for money... good on them.

As a father of 2 pre teen boys I say, we dont need any more negative rolemodels. Fokofpoliesiekar made a name not with their music, but their antics, falling down drunk and vomiting on stage, thats all people ever mention about them. So now Hatfield is packed with rock'boy'jocks doing the same.

Kids are going to encounter stuff like this everywhere, hopefully if their parents have been the role-models they need then they won't feel the urge to latch onto some external negative / destructive "role-model" instead.

This is rather funny.

My friend introduced me to Zep, Sabbath, Tull, The Doors and a few others when we were in St 8. When my father learned of this he told me to listen to that stuff, because its awesome. He was never allowed to by his parents. He knows that sort of censoring is futile. His parents tried hard. I guess when the time comes, if I have kids, the music their generation likes will not be quite to my liking either (or maybe it will?).

Negative Rolemodels? Jeez man, the Stones, ACDC, Sabbath and their ilk weren't exactly seen as 'positive rolemodels' by the parents (and authorities) of the day.

I was reading the Motley Crue bio in the bookshop the other day. My jaw must have been hanging open. Die Antwoord would have left any random party of theirs in disgust.

But no one minds because, "That was back in my day when life was simpler and more innocent." ?
