And then we have Clapton. He also went through the whole drugged up and disillusioned phase. Lost a hell of lot in the process, but hey, what do you know, he's still here. Still making music. Still inspiring people. And I love his strat tone btw. Far more than his early stuff. of all the early rock I've heard, imo only 3 got it right. The Stones, Hendrix and Led Zep. The rest I just don't get. Of all my Clapton, the stuff I listen to regularly are his newer stuff - filled with all that stratty goodness. To me his strat tone is right up there with Hendrix (albeit very different) . Tonewise Gilmore is also a monster imo, but he played in Floyd. Again, I tried but Floyd is all WTF to me. A few great songs but as a band, a little too rich for my tastes.
Maybe you should have another listen....
