I am SO miffed right now... our gig got cancelled

This sucks. We've been lining up this show since this time last year and now it turns out that our supporting band (well, bass and drummer) is not available anymore and the whole thing is getting canned. :'(

So there goes my little chance to perform Johnny B Goode, Black Betty and a few others that I've worked my gat off on for the last year.

That sucks man! A few years ago a band I was in had a Pretty sweet gig lined up. We were playing fourth in a six band line-up. Our turn comes, we start setting up , everybody's amped . . . and our drummer that was there just an hour earlier is gone (cue sounds of crickets and an odd cough). Worst feeling ever. :'(

No, it's a rather unique setup. It's a show that's been put together by all the musos in our church music team. One of the guitarists have a band who performs on an ad hoc basis so they'd form the backbone of the show and then the various musos would fit in doing their various different songs. We've done this twice before and it was an absolute blast.

The bassist was always going to be a problem as the original dude has relocated to Witrivier but we were optimistic that we'd be able to find another bassist. However, today the drummer notified us that they're moving down to Mosselbay and he'd have to pull out as well. That pretty much pulls the plug on the entire show as we wouldn't be able to afford renting a session bassist and drummer.

I think I'll just wrap up work here and then I'll go home and curl into the foetal position and cry myself asleep. Or maybe I should take Daniel's approach and hammer out some metal riffs - no wait, I can't play metal. Foetal position it is then.

Get some guitar player to play bass. Phone a few bands and ask a drummer to sit in - someone's dad who used to play drums whatever. Rhythm sections can fit in and adapt quickly. We played a 3 set gig a wee while back with a drummer we met 15 mins before the opening number. Went fine.

second - i met up with a mate of mine from a wee while ago at another mate's birthday gathering on saturday. he told me he was in pain. he plays guitar, he has a drummer pal, and they jam, but they don't have a bassist. i tell you man, i am so, so keen to pick up a bass again. i had a bunch of fun with my little peavey microbass and my cort gb44. one pickup and 15 watts. i didn't need more than that, but perhaps i will if i'm jamming. and then i could help folks out of jams (see what i did there peeps?) like this one too.
