PeachyDragon The DVD's are by Tom Jackson and what I've seen is awesome. I have the preliminary release DVD and the Band DVD. It's all about how to connect with the audience etc. In essence, it's about everything live music is about in a way. Does anyone else have the DVD's?
Averatu If his site is anything to go by, I dont know. All hype an wild claims and 6 months etc.. Anyone who puts a 'I'll teach you to be a master is 6 months' stamp on his stuff I'd be weary of.
Keira-WitherKay I have not seen it but it's great news that someone is teaching stage craft to muso's , i happen to know a few super hot muso's technically but put em on a stage and they just look and act wrong . So yes in some ways learning to look the part and act the part on stage helps a lot . Cos people listen with their eye's at a live gig , most forgive bad sound and the odd error but want to see a show and the muso's looking and acting the part so no golf shirts and chino's when you ripping away it's just wrong ? the studio guys can wear what they want in studio but please dress up for the stage act ? so yes a fab idea that could help many aspiring stars
PeachyDragon Don't be so sceptical Averatu... Most things can be learned in 6 months... They aren't saying "play guitar like the pros", etc. It's just a skill that is added to your skill set. If I took a jazz guitarist and gave him a course about playing rock for 6 solid months I'm sure he/she would kick ass at it after that. ? I have many family members in different areas of the music industry, and these things are the NUMBER 1 reason many of those family members struggle to make a living... I've seen most of these things in practice and I do not doubt their validity. Was just hoping someone else out there has some insights...

With all the scams out there, I'll err on the side of caution, you fork out $350 and see how it goes.
PeachyDragon I agree. I bought the preliminary release for $150. and another part for $50... Not planning on taking the $350 plunge.
21Fretter Give us a little review if possible. Stage performance is something my band has been trying to work on.
PeachyDragon Well, you can watch some youtube videos:Tom jackson - All roads lead to the stage. In a nutshell... audiences relate to emotions and moments and not to music... If I give you a great book to borrow you might read it... if I give you a great book and tell you how passionate I am about it and how it influenced me and how it's part of what inspires me in life, you are FAR more likely to read it... why? Because the book has become better? NO! because I have attracted your attention to some of the emotional elements of it and given it a frame of reference. The story from the DVD I always tell people is this... Tom J was playing bass in a band and their drummer broke his arm. Couldn't get a replacement so gigged with "one-armed" drummer. They sucked but got better applause and merchandise sales than ANY other gig ever... why? People connected emotionally with the drummer... Performance is not about jumping up and down for 30 minutes... if you do that it's also Chinese water torture. If all the songs don't sound the same, they shouldn't all look the same. 15% of an audience's perception is visual. another 30% is tone and colour, e.g. screaming or Celine dion or whiny crying sounds of Enriche Eglesias etc. So visual impact is huge... When I want to kaktus op die Vlaktes In Oudshoorn in roughly 1996, do you know who I enjoyed most? I wasn't there getting drunk or hooking up with girls or partying that year. I was there on my own killing time watching bands... The Finkelsteins blew my mind... do I like their music? NO... but I wasn't bored for one second when they were on... they were soooo much better than Mango Groove even was. Audiences are ignorant and need direction... does that help 21fretter? ?
21Fretter So i need to break my drummer's arm?! ? ? I gave a few of his clips a few already actually, got my Google on after I read your initial topic post. Definitely something I would like to look into because at the moment I do simply jump around a bit, head bang a bit, try to look like we are having fun. We do try to interact the audience as we play covers, get them to sing, clap along but we are unsure as how to, as you guys are describing, create an emotionally connecting memorable show. I imagine Tom Jackson and others teache one those steps/techniques.
PeachyDragon Sounds like you have some parts right though... but yeah.... when the vocalist is singing and the lead guitarist starts playing a long note.... the audience doesnt know it it's an airplane or a musician making the sound... so the singer and/or guitarist needs to visually, verbally, or through body language acknowledge the other musician entering the arrangement... then the audience is on-board. I'm also still learning. The full 7-DVD set definitely has more details than I have. Let me know if you decide to spend the R4000. ouch.

Only things that "major in the minors"...meaning minors like, smile here, put your foot on the monitor when soloing here etc.
