Former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony have teamed with guitarist Joe Satriani and Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith to form Chickenfoot.
Hagar has revealed that the super-combo has already written 8 or 9 songs and has described the band as sounding like Led Zeppelin.
The band plans to record in September and will release an album before the end of this year.
Hagar's last solo album was 'Ten13' in 2000. He also sang three new songs on the Van Halen compilation 'Best Of Both Worlds' in 2004.
Smith has time on his side for the project. Red Hot Chili Peppers are taking 2008 off.
Anthony hasn't done much since leaving Van Halen. The founding bass player for the band was dropped from the line-up for the reunion tour with David Lee Roth. Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang replaced him.
I wonder what this will sound like?
Satriani will be touring Australia in July in support of his new album 'Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock'.

This could very well be one of my favourite bands ever if they manage to stay together. I saw a youtube clip and it sounds very 80's rockish, could be big.

fyi- there's actually a track off satch's 'is there love in space' album that was slated to be used in a band project he was doing at the time with sammy hagar: track # 2 'up in flames'. he talks about the track/album in a streaming podcast on his site, said he had to 'wrestle it back into instrumental form'.

Bought the album. Interesting. Very traditional 80s style rock, more AC/DC than Zeppelin though.
Obviously fantastic musicians. I will hold back comments until i have listened to it a few times over. will post more then.

I just love Sammy Hagar. Him and Myles Kennedy did some of the vocals on the movie Rockstar.

Have listened to the album a few times now. The guitar work is good and sounds like great rock should. I do get a little bored by the 4th or 5th track. I don't like Sammy's vocals that much. Despite the great line-up, it's not an album that will probably feature in my playlist that often.
