NGD: MIJ Strat (Seafoam Green)

While looking for a "beat-up" MIM, MIJ or MIA Strat for a project, I stumbled across this great condition MIJ Strat at a great price that I just could not resist ?. The guitar is really in excellent condition except for a knock on the end of the headstock. If it weren't for this I would put it at 9/10 (10/10 being new). The serial number is U006008 and is a "Made in Japan" which puts in at '95-'96. I am unsure of the pearloid pickguard is original but everything else looks standard. This is the only "green" I really like but is really more a turquoise I suppose, although officially called "SeaFoam Green". I believe some of the MIJ's have the model dexcription in the neck pocket which I will check soon, but I am sure this is some kind of reissue (my thoughts are a 62RI but we will see soon enough) as the tuners are vintage "Kluson" type and the neck has a vintage tint with no skunk stripe etc. Anyway, I think it looks great and will form a decent base for a working guitar with very little mods. Unfortunately I always need noiseless PuPs so if anyone has a set to sell please contact me via 'pm". Nice to have the variety, but a pain to keep in strings, so I try to limit to what I'll use. I've been as high as 27 and went straight from that to just one and stayed there for a decade or so. I'm currently down to four guitars (each completely different) and one bass. However, I am going to add something Gretschy on the guitar side soon and still want something fretless on the bass side. I don't think I'll ever have two of one variety again - I'd rather fill the spot with something completely different.

You're correct Alan - my goal is:

1) 2 x Strat type - probably the Kirn which is slightly more modern and darker, and RW fb, and the 57RI - more traditional with Maple fb.
2) 2 x Tele type - Logan and probably Thinline with HB and Maple fb

However acoustic guitars are another story for another thread ... ?

OK, I'll bite, what's the price? I love seafoam green and I don't have a rosewood strat.

It's worth about R8.5K, but based on recent selling prices, will sell lower. But I wouldn't sell for less than R6.5K.

Great guitars, I've owned a few of these.

First thing, re fret it with 6105s, flatten the radius to maybe 9.5" (optional), cost +/- R1700.00 and you've got as good a Strat as money can buy, IMO.

Was there any stamp/marking in the neck pocket (on the body)?

No stamp markings on neck pocket. As per my info not all MIJs had stamps in the pocket but were either in the pocket or on the heel of the neck but some both. The heel is a nice tight fit though which I have also read is a mark of a good MIJ.

What is interesting is that until the end of 96/97 all necks made by the famous FujiGen Gakki were stamped Made in Japan (as on this one) and those made in other factories (Dyna Gakki, Tokai etc) from 1992 onwards were stamped Crafted in Japan.

Also according to my search most reissues were made with Basswood bodies.

Just checked neck pocket and no stamp or number but as I said, according to my research some have and some don't...
