What are the differences between a satin and gloss finish in a guitar?

I'm having a custom guit built and the luthier asked me whether I want
a satin or gloss finish... to which I replied... ???
Please educate me wise ones. Pics anyone?

I assume you're just talking in terms of aesthetics?

I think it's difficult to capture the differences on camera, especially for amateurs. These are the best I could find:

Satin

Gloss

If you want a proper idea, find yourself a guitar shop and ask them to show you a couple of guitars. AFAIK all the Highway 1 USA Telecasters are satin, most other guitars are gloss...
