Rack dimensions

So I've been given a cabinet that currently houses my printer, and I think it might be the right size for rack effects. the outer dimension is 19cm, but will it fit a rack unit or am I dreaming?

Inner measurement is 44cm.

19" Don, not 19cm... That's 482.6 mm and 1U is 45mm high.

What I'm interested in is is a rack unit will fit inside. The face of the units seems to be 19" which could be ok if the body is less than that?

The part fitting in the rack is about 442mm x 220mm x 45mm (1U)[or 89mm (2U) or 134mm (3U) or 178mm (4U)]

The face plate part sticking out front it 482.6mm

So if the hole you want to stick it into is 442mm x 220mm + a bit for safety then it shall work.

The IEC standards say the posts (that the unit bolts to) should be 15.88 mm wide and the empty gap between them 450.85 mm. Many rack units have a narrower body and wider ears, so will fit, but at 440 mm, you might run across a few units that are just that little bit too wide.

the inner dimension is 442mm exactly. Its a bit of a squeeze. Even with my printer inside it there is space for some rack units. maybe a compressor or the like.

Now that I have this it opens up some avenues if I see an effect I like that is a rack unit, like the G-Major etc.

So what rack gear are going to be buying to fill up the empty spaces ? ?

I'll be keeping an eye out for items like the Digi 08, or another rack mounted AI.
Maybe a mic preamp, or definitely an effects processor or guitar pre-amp.

Sadly I desperately need new monitors first.

i'm interest(ed) to know, coz i'm doff. could there be any interference from the printer? (assuming you're leaving it in there and potentially adding rack units.)

In the end the printer will be in the way, that's all :-\

I would not want to mount rack units too tightly into a cabinet since they are designed to dump their heat through the sides, front and back.

There's a Digi 003 Rack in the classifieds ATM for R5.5K. You missed my ESI ESP1010 for a silly price last month.

I've also got a Behringer T1953 valve preamp I'll take any kind of offer or interesting swap on.

Sadly I desperately need new monitors first.

There are some Adam A7s at Tuerk ATM for R12K. They also have some UA LA610 pres going cheap too (Relatively - R10K).
