Cooder seems to have been a late bloomer as a songwriter. In the 70s he was mostly dredging up and dusting off dust-bowl era Americana, but his last few albums have seen him writing a majority of the material.
Guesting with the Stones. Keef may have ended sounding quite different if Cooder hadn't guested on some Stones albums. What I find interesting about "Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down" is that the influence is quite clear at times, with some licks that might remind the listener of Keef if the listener wasn't aware of the previous "skill transfer".
