Tjop & Dop & REAPER Workshop (21 Jan)

Greetings folks,

If you've been following this thread (http://www.guitarforum.co.za/recordings/i've-got-an-m-audio-fast-track-pro-and-reaper-what-now!!) you will know of this workshop idea. If not, continue reading.

So it seems that we have a fair number of GFSA'ers who'd like to learn a bit of the basics of using REAPER and we've decided to get together and have those who know show those who don't. TomCat has kindly offered to do some showing and having discussed a game plan with him now I'm VERY excited.

A rudimentary agenda of what we hope to touch on:
- General REAPER interface and workflow
- How to use your Audio Interface with REAPER
- How to use VST's
- How to work with MIDI
- How to work with drums

So, here's the deal:
DATE: 21 Jan, 2012 (Wow, the date is even palindromic - 12/1/21)
TIME: 10:00 (that would allow us to have a pre braai session and a post braai session)
PLACE: The deefstes residence (Blairgowrie, Randburg, Jozi) - PM me for details
WHAT TO BRING: A tjop for the braai, a dop for the thirst and any REAPER questions (or know-how) you might have. I'll see to it that there are some side dishes. If anyone else feels like they'd want to bring a side dish (buns, salad etc.), that would be appreciated.

I think that's about it. The GFSA bunch is always a fun crowd and I'm particularly looking forward to this gathering.

i shall mos def be there. looking fwd to a smashing and informative time. i'll bring tjops, dops, questions, and i shall provide some lekker buns - plus a roll or two. once we have a better idea of how many will be there, i'll plan for numbers of buns.

Last minute bump to the thread. We've had a smaller uptake than the discussion in the original thread suggested but it is still on and you're still welcome to come along. 10:00 tomorrow morning at my gaf. Gooi a PM my way if you need directions or phone numbers.

I wish I could attend this. I just got my M-Audio the other day, and would love to learn how to use it better. I will be sure to be picking your brains after - Don't forget to post the minutes of the meeting 8)

A great time was had. We will not share our recording though, not because there was anything lacking to Tom's recording prowess but because there was a lot lacking to the guitarist's prowess - I won't mention who it was because it was me. ?

I will regale you though with a picture of Tom as he's going throught the REAPER functions with us.

A great guy, a great teacher and a great recording artist. He shared some of the recordings he's made and we were all duly impressed. The fact that we don't have more pictures to share is testament to the fact that we were totally absorbed in the learning process.

domhatch has been making extensive notes and said that he'd put together a quick-start guide of sorts for the benefit of those who couldn't make it. Watch this space.

I think we should do something like this again some time. And to all the plonks who are trying, and so far failing, to put together a Pta/Jhb get together, get it together guys! ?

I think that picture was one of those...."Good Question..???.......Now let me see if I can answer that........It's here somewhere....???.... ? ?

I'm certainly looking forward to another get together sometime.....
