I had no plans to start a build thread...
But I will post the odd picture, and stories of this Journey.
It means everything to me.

Always wanted to build a guitar with my dad, but never got round to doing it while growing up.
He was diagnosed with brain cancer in July 2011.
So in my haste I got the earliest build spot I could, to make our dreams come true, to have something special that was both of ours.
He helped me pick the most beautiful wood, and chose an inlay for the neck...
He then lost the battle on the 31 October 2011 at the age of 55 ... So this special guitar is in loving memory of the greatest man I know.

So too start off the thread,

I have been waiting so patiently for this Brent - glad you decided to post the odd image every so often. Enjoy the journey and the positive and wonderful memories it will bring back as you remember your Dad and the good times you've had.

Gerald Sheppard(Sheppard Guitars) has this to say about African Rosewood (Bubinga): "Bubinga usually has a simple look similar to Mahogany yet it is prettier. Sometimes it almost has a Teak look. It is often available with a quilt similar to quilted Maple. Bubinga has a wonderful tone. It is responsive and full. It doesn't have quiet the low end as rosewood, but it is much more balanced than Mahogany. Considering its stability and tone, it just may be the best instrument wood available for the money. "

You simply can't go wrong with LS Redwood as well.

Now add Peter's exquisite attention to detail, craftsmanship, the Cornerstone tone and the special meaning of this guitar and you will have a real treasure when it's finished! ? 8)

Nothing glamorous there, I asked him for a few designs, and I picked the one that grabbed me. The Leaf grabbed me ?

Its more about the insane African Rosewood and Carter LS Redwood for me ?

? Sure. I'm free then. A mutual friend told me that you'd be down sometime.
He'd like us to visit (and so would i)..trust me, you will not be disappointed.

Can I ask a few questions about the sound port? have you tried a few guitars with them and without? Any chance you could give a comprehensive report? The only input I can find basically says they act almost like a monitor for the player...but at what cost to the tone? Is there any?

Hi quite a few yes

Makes a big difference it what the player hears yes. Absolutely, you hear a fuller sound coming from the guitar!
As for tone change? nothing.. why would it ?
I'd say the top is everything. and there is a hole there too... and Willie Nelson has a few more. He doesnt have bad tone ?

As far as the soundport goes, this is a great read on Tim McKnight's experiment with soundports:

I really enjoy them, not only for that little extra "monitor" when playing live, but it also adds to the player's experience when playing in a quiet environment as well. A well designed and compensated for soundport will add even greater 3D sound to the player.

hhhhmmm, I'm about to start building an african blackwood/german spruce OM at casimi guitars...maybe I should read up on sound ports ?
