So now that I have it, I'm a little bit out of my depth. I thought I'd figure it out easily, and I'm slowly making progress, but I really could do with some...

I've got an M-Audio Fast Track Pro and REAPER, what now?!?!

Hey all....

I'm no expert on Reaper but I have done two albums and a whole bunch of demos so I might know enough to stay out of trouble.. :-\ :-\...I'd be keen to do a get together and workshop....We can all learn from each other....

All we need is a time and place........ ?

Hey, I'm down for a Tjop & Dop & REAPER Workshop. I reckon the Audio Interface is the easy part, what most of us have in common is not the model of AI but the fact that we use REAPER, maybe we should get together and have someone who speaks REAPER fluently show us the ropes.

My house is available (Blairgowrie, Randburg) and I am available over the next two weekends. My equipment is very rudimentary though but I guess all we need is one computer with REAPER installed, which I have.

So, anyone who considers himself REAPER-literate who'd see his way open to provide the edumacation?

how about we start a thread called 'reaper edumacation workshop - edumacator wanted' and we see if anyone puts up their hand? yes? i'm happy to host as well, i gots a braai, fridge pretty full of beer, and somewhere relatively private to work. can do around 5 or 6 people at a time. only potential problem is i work on a mac and i'm the idiot with the line 6 interface.

so, who starts the thread?

I'd be happy to do what Edumacating I can.....I'm no boffin in Reaper but have worked with it for a while and get around the basics pretty quickly.....I also run the Mac version so I'm happy to do it on Mac....

The actual UI between Mac and PC are very similar so learning on one allows you to be familiar with both versions.....

OK, I like what's happening here. I will be happy for Tom to do the edumacating. I will bring my laptop with so we will have one Mac and on PC to make sure that everyone understands everything.

Now, how about next week Saturday (21 Jan)? Who's in?

Might I suggest that we cover a few predetermined topics? Amongst others, I would appreciate for instance if we could touch on:
- General REAPER interface and workflow
- How to use VST's
- How to work with MIDI
- How to work with drums
- A lot of peeps seem to be infatuated with Guitar Rig Pro. I'd love to see what it's all about and how it integrates with REAPER.

Any other points to consider?

My place (Blairgowrie) is available. How portable is your Mac/Line 6 setup? My Laptop/Fast Track Pro is very portable so I can easily bring it to you if that would make it easier to have two different setups present. I can probably host 8-10 people.

I didn't say "next Saturday", I said "next week Saturday". But I knew it would be prone to misinterpretation which is why I added the date. Come to think of it, maybe we could add to the day's curriculum the following two points:
1. What does "next week Saturday mean"?
2. Which is the bottom string of a guitar?

sounds like your place is a better bet deefstes - mine is maybe a little more cramped, it can probably handle a max of 6 and, being upstairs, it does tend to get somewhat warm as the day progresses. my setup is relatively portable - i'll bring it along just in case. what instruments does we needs? or are we hijackings yours preeeeeecioussssses for the day?

and yes, having reviewed your lead up to this spot, i noticed your 'next week saturday'. nicely played - i should've known better than to tangle with you.

i like the curriculum - nice, sensible flow and manageable.

well, like i said, i'd like to do a bit of a summary of the day's learnings - bit of a quick-start guide, if you will. so while you may not get to hang, if we actually get our asses into gear, you may well end up learning almost as much as we do. with a little luck and magick.
