Its true that some competitions dry up... but it would mostly be put down to people not finding the time to do it. I looked at a couple of old threads recently and a lot of people, in the dying stage of the comp entry mentioned that they missed it due to personal time (thats just a summary).
Someone's hardly going to say "sorry guys, I didn't enter this one because I dislike the categories". He'd rather lose interest (maybe because of the categories) and then simply don't find the time to enter something. For all we know he may have found the time for it if the challenge was more enjoyable and less of a convoluted overcomplication with categories and whatnots.
evolucian wroteIf you are suggesting to lumpsum everyone... then there will be only one vote which makes it tougher
There's no reason why every person can't have three votes, even if there is only one category. But even so, I enjoy the comments that I receive on my entries more than the votes I receive. If I don't get a single vote but several critiques it'll be enough for me to keep entering.

I believe ez should be in cat A because the tone from his fingers dictates this alone.
An argument that wouldn't exist if there were no categories. Besides, I thought it's for him to decide.
evolucian wroteI'm also assuming that if one bitches too much about rules and such... Alan is gonna go all daddy on us and take away our toys... and no dinner till christmas. That kinda thing.
I don't think I can be blamed for having bitched about it. Surely I'm allowed to offer my take on the matter, seeing as that is the prevailing tone of this thread currently.
