Anyone know where I can get one locally for a Strat? Any problems with using them, in other words: is it worthwhile?

first up, you should be prepared to carve out a bit of the wood since LSR roller nuts a a bit wider than a standard nut. Personally I think that if your standard nut is well cut and lubed then a roller nut won't make too much difference (There could be a slight increase in sustain due to the roller nut being slightly heavier and denser.)

and just to add, i don't know anywhere in SA that stocks them, but you could maybe get a retailer to bring one in for you from overseas?

An LSR Roller nut is easily available through Marshall Music or Bothners - so long as Fender have in stock - last I check ed they were around R 4/500 - a bit pricey for something that requires so much modding - who wants to shave wood off the neck just to install a nut ?!?
+1 - you're better off with a graphtech nut or a Tusq (or bone) nut that is neatly cut with some graphite powder in the string slots - roller nuts are out-dated technology, and the bearings eventually seize up !

That settles it then! Tx guys.

^^ +10 3/4 on everything VV said they work OK until they start wearing and then give problems. It means widening the nut slot towards the first fret and that's a pro job, reversing it is also pro work. It will also only work for three gauges of strings (.008", .009, .010"), so you can't change to .011s, .012s or .013s when bitten by a Hendrix/SRV/Numetal bug.
On the plus side, the Earvana OEM nut fits into an LSR roller nut slot...
