Epi SG Headstock Break

nwalden

This happened today ☹

Result of falling off stand :'( Is there anywhere in the PTA/JHB area with someone who is able to fix disasters like this???

Any luthier should be able to do it - it's a common thing with Gibby-style headstocks. Don't worry, it's not as bad as it looks. It's a long break, which means plenty of surface area to glue and no need for pins.

In PTA give Mark Sprawson a call - 076 832 5117. Mark used to work at McGibbon's in Johannesburg and did good jobs on all three of my guitars.

Music Connection in Randburg have a very good workshop with three good techs.

Somehow, this tends to happen to the SG... ???

This isn't a mega fix, AFAIK, any decent tech worth his salt should be able to fix it without too much hassle... I'm sure some of the other forumites have new contact details for Andy McGibbon and some of the reputable techs in your area...

*EDIT: As Bob has now demonstrated ?

Thanks for the support and quick replies, I'll give Mark a call and see what he says, I'm glad to hear it's not fatal!!!

Just a thought on a break such as that. Andy once mentioned that the most critical factor when a break occurs is not to touch the surface of the break as it can have a negative impact on the repair as our hands do have surface oils. So if a break occurs, by all means assess the damage, bad the components and take it in for repairs asap. another aspect to consider is moisture from the air can also get absorbed into the bare wood grain also having negative impacts on any repairs.
