....and do not forget upper deck, who cares about the food?... the music and vibe there on a Sunday afternoon is so awesome, you leave satisfied even after Russian and Chips.

Oh yes, I've been there and it is quite good. It's more like a bistro than a proper restaurant though but they have really good food is you're looking for a light meal.

That looks interesting, might give that a try next time I'm around. If we're talking about Windhoek I might throw in another one of my all time favourite restaurants; the restaurant at the Hotel Heinitzburg, one of the three old castles in the city that has been converted to a hotel. Not just fantastic food but also a very impressive wine and whisky selection and the cherry on top, a magnificent view over Windhoek and the Khomas Hochland.

Oh man, how could I forget the garden terrace at the Hotel.................very nice, just couldn't get in the last time I was there, been to Joe's about 10 times, loved it every time.

This is making me seriously hungry...

I saw someone mention Spur.. IMO Spur should not feature in a "good restaurant" thread.

I have a little theory that for the same money you'll spend at Spur there will ALWAYS be a better option in terms of service, quality and value for money elsewhere - no matter what you're having.

Guess they appeal to the kiddies :/

And to the parents of kiddies. I'm not a fan of spur myself and, while I'm sure some are better than others, even the best ones are still mediocre. But I know my sister and her family love Spur because they cater well for kiddies, both in terms of their menu and entertainment.

But I'm with you, I think all the Spur posts should be split off to another thread called "The not-so-bad-if-you're-not-overly-concerned-with-quality-and-service restaurant thread".

Worked in the trade for a little over 11 years and worked as a Chef de Partie in 2 high end Pretoria resturants, trust me I know a good steak........in general, spurs suck.........but go to the ones in the small towns where they are not forced to sell the crap that 99% of the spurs sell and in turn they buy from local farmers.

Makes all the diffs............

plus I used to be fat............that says way more than any job that I've ever done.......lol.

When I went to CT, I visited some forum okes, and ate food.

Bestof my experiences were at the Simonsig wine farm ito fine dining. The desserts were the best I've ever had. Vanilla was fantastic too, although slightly hit and miss, the hits were the best meals I've ever had.

Closer to home, I was blown away by the Adega in Bryanston, which I really didint expect. The seafood was amazing, and their king prawn lunchtime special is really decent value. Can't wait to go there again.

I mentioned Spur and some of them (as mentioned, Jacaranda) have excellent food, but some has poor food and service. Thought this was a good food thread, not an excellent cuisine thread.

I suppose it depends on the grading system you're using. I figured there are three grades; you get food, either side of which you get bad food and good food. Spur is food. ?

one of the best steaks i ever had was on a flight from here to Amsterdam ...an no , this was on the way to the coffee shops and not from the coffee shops ...but damn it was a fine steak ...made by air chefs no doubt ...
