vic Thanks Costa.....Thanks Alan....I will pass you kind comments on to Gene vd Meulen (I only fitted them brass vents ? )
vic Thanks Reinhard and Frodo..... She'll be getting blue alnicos in there....patiently waiting for it to arrive.
singemonkey Wow that's beautiful Vic. I imagine it looked like that when it was first un-boxed in the store. Wonderful work. On another note: anyone else have that feeling that '67-'68 was the high water mark of Western popular culture?
vic Thanks Nicholas. @Singe.....dunno about Western pop culture as a whole, but certainly that's the case with JMI/Vox with which I have plenty experience. Without exception you'll find that the older AC30's are better made....higher quality hardware in general.... for eg. the control panels of '62-65 models are still nice looking after all these years while the later ones' panels are almost unreadable by now. The brass vents of the older models are still nice looking as well while the plastic vents of later years are cracked or just simply lost from the amp. The cabs of the older AC30's were of high quality plywood...the later ones (70's) are of heavy particle board....I can go on...One thing that thankfully remained the same was the quality of the valves used during the 50's -mid 70's... ?
vic I fitted the alnico blues this morning....UK made Celestions....much thanks Stuart Goodwin (Marshall Music) and Karel Mars for a neat solder job ! ?
vic Reinhard wrote That is sweet! How do they sound? Thanks Reinhard. Sounds great. Good mids and bottoms.....that's how I like it. An investment in blues is highly recommended imho.
Gearhead Vic wrote much thanks Stuart Goodwin (Marshall Music) How do you mean, did he/they bring these in?
singemonkey As your lawyer I'd advise you to crank that sucker to 10 and belt out Day Tripper on the '58 LP.
vic Gearhead wrote Vic wrote much thanks Stuart Goodwin (Marshall Music) How do you mean, did he/they bring these in? I only know Stuart had this pair of Vox alnicos available and I jumped at it.
