LP templates

Wizard

I've probably asked about this before.

I'm about a year late in helping a friend make an LP type body.
It's a copy of an ESP Eclipse; but will probably do the controls like an M200.

I need help with routing templates for
- the humbuckers
- the control cavity; including the backplate

Help anyone?

What kind of router and bit are you going to use? I have found building my own templates work the best, Go get some cheap 5mm hardboard from your closest hardware store, now measure the Humbuckers and if your router has a template guide remember to add the extra few millimeters from the outside of the template guide to the edge of the router bit. Now when you have the template design on the hardboard you can drill a few holes inside the template so getting the jigsaw in there does not become a problem. I have found roughly cutting it out with the jigsaw and then fine tuning it with some files work best for me. You can do the same for the electronics cavity and then after routing the cavity use a router bit with a bearing at the bottom just to get that sunk in edge you need...

On the other hand I might be sitting the pot miss here and you might just be interested in getting a ready made one? Well hope this helps...

Agreed, make your own. Fish Eagle, don't worry about Wizards ability with woodwork ?
I use perspex since it allows me to put a scribe line on the centerline and get it on the guit more consistently.

Well I used the hardboard mainly cause it was cheap, like R15 for a 30cm x 30cm piece and cause it was my first try and didn't want to get something more expensive to erm... lets say test on. But will definitely now go for the perspex rout next and make my self some more permanent ones! Pretty sure they are more robust as well!!
