I wouldn't rule out the possibility that he was planted and that it all forms part of the meticulously scripted Idols course of events. They've been known to do that. I can never take Idols seriously anymore (not that I want to, mind you).

Yeah... it's a bit like that guy on the pawn shop show (as opposed to the porn shop show) who walks in with what he says is a rare Gibson. The cameras just happened to be set up, the lighting was in place? How convenient.

They can't possibly film everything and interview everybody who pops up at Idols. Though it may be the case that if they get 5% on film they'll end up with something egregiously weird and/or sucky.
